TITLE: A Devil Comes to Town
AUTHOR: Paolo Maurensig
PUBLISHED: 2018
LENGTH: 120 pages
LOG LINE: A small Swiss mountain town gets obsessed w/ literature—and the new parish priest is sure it's the work of the Devil in disguise.
QUOTE: "Each time we pick up a pen we are preparing to perform a ritual for which two candles should always be lit: one white and one black."
REVIEW: A short, Gothic, metatextual novella that goes by fast and goes down easy. Has that dreamy, blurred clip of the Gothic, but the tension never really built for me. I did leave with more questions than answers—but I wasn't particularly intersted in answering them.
YOU SHOULD READ THIS IF: You believe in the Devil, or think the publishing industry is absolute hell.
